Zachry Holdings partners with Meals on Wheels
This week, Zachry Holdings, Inc. will officially partner with Meals on Wheels to begin delivering on the south side of San Antonio. On a rotating basis, a pair of Zachry employees will donate one lunch hour each weekday and deliver meals to homebound seniors living in close proximity to their offices. This coordinated effort will not only help feed frail seniors living nearby, but will also provide opportunities for brief wellness checks and help combat loneliness amongst this very vulnerable segment of our community.
“With so much demand on the south side, the commitment from Zachry couldn’t come soon enough,” said Sharon Baughman, CEO of Christian Senior Services. “Everybody is extremely excited to have them as a partner as they are in a perfect location to make an immediate impact on the program.”
“Zachry Holdings has periodically assisted in the delivery of Meals on Wheels for clients who live in our south side neighborhood. The sense of purpose experienced by our volunteers prompted this significant expansion of our commitment” said lead coordinator, Sue Rodriguez.
Zachry will be the 23rd corporate partner to begin delivering meals on behalf of the program. The company has already received commitment from 100+ employees who will volunteer during their lunch hour to help deliver meals. Under a coordinated system, the local Meals on Wheels program allows corporations, churches, and civic groups to take ownership of a current meal delivery route so they may empower their own volunteers to distribute the meals throughout the work week. This unique partnership opportunity affords Meals on Wheels of San Antonio the ability to deliver over 900,000 meals every year to homebound seniors living in Bexar County.
