Communities In Schools Announces Major Donation from The Meadows Foundation
Communities In Schools, the leading organization dedicated to empowering students to stay in school and achieve in life, is proud to announce that it is the recipient of a $150,000 grant awarded to the national office.
“This grant will allow us to deepen our reach throughout the state of Texas and continue to serve more children there, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life”
The donations have been allocated to assist Communities In Schools’ efforts in developing a mechanism to increase private investment and continued public support for the CIS State Office and network of local affiliates across Texas. This investment will drive a collaborative effort of the CIS of Texas network of local affiliates, the CIS of Texas State Advisory Council, and the CIS National Office. In the current school year, nearly 450,000 Texas students are being served by Communities In Schools affiliates at more than 700 school sites.
“This grant will allow us to deepen our reach throughout the state of Texas and continue to serve more children there, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life,” said Communities In Schools President Daniel Cardinali.
Since its foundation in 1948, The Meadows Foundation has contributed greatly to enriching the lives of countless Texans in the areas of arts and culture, civic and public affairs, education, health and human services. Hoping to develop a philanthropic spirit among high school and middle school students, the Foundation has awarded in excess of $2.5 million over the past 28 years to more than 400 schools in North Texas whose students planned and carried out community service programs.
Communities In Schools surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Through a school-based site coordinator, Communities In Schools connect students and their families to critical community resources, tailored to local needs. Working in nearly 3,000 schools, in the most challenged communities in 25 states and the District of Columbia, Communities In Schools serves more than 1.3 million young people and their families every year. It has been shown through an independent evaluation to be the nation’s only dropout prevention organization proven to both increase graduation rates and reduce dropout rates.
