SA Sports Receives Grants for Fit Family Challenge
San Antonio Sports has received a $200,000 grant from the Kronkosky Charitable Foundation to fund Fit Family Challenge, a program designed to improve the health and wellness of San Antonio families through an incentive-based, family-friendly program that supports and sustains physical activity and healthy eating. San Antonio Sports also received $50,000 from the Blake, Kymberly and George Rapier Charitable Trust for the program. Available to anyone living in Bexar County, Fit Family Challenge specifically targets families with children under 18 who live in San Antonio neighborhoods identified as high risk for ongoing health problems. The second year of the free four-month program begins Saturday, April 30. Fit Family Challenge is a collaboration consisting of local nonprofits, school districts, area businesses, and local government agencies.
“San Antonio Sports is excited that we can continue to support our vision of a healthier San Antonio through physical activity with the generosity of the Kronkosky Charitable Foundation and the Blake, Kymberly and George Rapier Charitable Trust,” says Susan Blackwood, executive director, San Antonio Sports. “Our city is the seventh largest in the country and regularly tops the nation’s lists of cities with high obesity and diabetes rates. Fit Family Challenge will help combat inactivity and all the associated health problems that come with it.”
