Houston Community College has received a $3.5 million grant from the U.S. Departments of Labor, Education and Energy to boost the school’s energy programs.

HCC plans to use the funds to create a network of educational, industry and state partners to explore the availability and effectiveness of solar installation training programs throughout the region.

Of the nine regions across the country receiving grants from the federal government, HCC’s portion was the largest, according to the school. In addition, HCC was the only Texas institution receiving the grant.
