Parents Step Ahead Receives Grant from ETS
DALLAS, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Educational Testing Service (ETS) provided a grant to Parents Step Ahead for school-based programs and their newly established Ambassador initiative.
"From a large body of research and experience, we know that children do better in school when their parents are actively engaged and supportive. We are proud to support the work of Parents Step Ahead because of its success in recruiting and training parents to be effective partners with teachers and administrators in their children's education," says Eleanor Horne, Vice President of ETS Social Investment Fund for ETS. "Parents Step Ahead has developed a new outreach component consisting of teachers and administrators serving as 'ambassadors' who will actively engage parents, especially those parents who have never attended a school meeting or event. They will assist in making calls to parents, marketing the program and providing guidance to Parents Step Ahead for their programs."
"ETS is pleased to contribute to the Ambassadors Initiative of Parents Step Ahead. Their efforts to increase parental involvement in their children's education is exactly what's needed if we are to increase the quality of education," says Frank Gomez, Strategic Alliances-Public Affairs Executive for ETS. "Parental involvement is gaining popularity. A recent survey noted a 37 percentage point jump in the portion of African-American parents who say they'll volunteer in their child's school. And Parents Step Ahead has demonstrated that parents of all backgrounds want to get involved. We look forward to helping Parents Step Ahead expand this momentum among all parental groups."
During the school-based programs, Parents Step Ahead will recognize these "ambassadors" for their hard work and support by raffling cash grants for summer teacher conferences, gift cards, and a laptop computer for school use.
"Parents Step Ahead is extremely grateful for the continued support ETS has given us for the past 3 years. With this contribution, we will be able to recognize those teachers and school officials who are tirelessly working on our behalf to increase parental involvement," says Lupita Colmenero, founder of Parents Step Ahead. "This expansion of the Parents Step Ahead program will have a positive impact not only on the lives of the children whose parents participate, but also on the well-being of the communities where underserved families live."
