The Kronkosky Charitable Foundation awarded San Antonio Sports a $225,000 grant to support the organization’s Fit Family Challenge program.

San Antonio Sports’ Fit Family Challenge is designed to improve the health and wellness of local families through an incentive-based program. Fit Family Challenge will target families with children under 18 who live in San Antonio neighborhoods that are identified as high risk for ongoing health problems. The program will launch in May 2010.

Local nonprofits, school districts, area businesses and local government agencies will all be courted to participate in Fit Family Challenge.

“San Antonio Sports is excited that the Kronkosky Charitable Foundation is supporting our vision of a healthier San Antonio through physical activity,” says Susan Blackwood, executive director of San Antonio Sports. “Our city is the seventh largest in the country and regularly tops the nation’s lists of cities with high obesity and diabetes rates. Fit Family Challenge, along with our two school-based programs, will help combat inactivity and all the associated health problems that come with it.”

San Antonio Sports is a nonprofit organization with a mission of transforming the community through sports activity. In addition to Fit Family Challenge, the organization also sponsors school-based fitness program School Rock Challenge and the Valero Go!Kids Challenge. School Rock Challenge will begin this September and the Valero Go!Kids Challenge will begin in February 2010.
