November, 2017

Volunteers are needed to help more than 530 athletes bowl in Greater Houston-area competition.

HOUSTON – Special Olympics Texas athletes from across the Greater Houston area will show off their bowling skills at Copperfield Bowl,15615 Glen Chase Drive, on Saturday, Dec. 2. The tournament will run from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Volunteers are still needed to assist with various duties at the competition. To register for a morning or afternoon shift, click here.

Athletes, ranging from 9-70 years old, will participate in ramp bowling, singles, doubles or Unified bowling. All bowlers 12 and older will be eligible to compete in the statewide tournament at Winer Games, which will take place in Austin from Feb. 2-4.

With 18,276 participants in 2016, Bowling is SOTX’s second-most popular sport statewide, only behind Athletics (Track & Field). It is a particularly beneficial sport to people with intellectual disabilities, irrespective of their age or sports abilities, since it ensures physical exercise and at the same time participation and social integration.
