December E-Newsletter
Children at Risk

December, 2016

CHILDREN AT RISK is wrapping up another successful year of making BIG changes for Texas' children. This year, the early education team toured the state of Texas disseminating key findings from our two studies on high quality public Pre-K and state-funded child care.  In addition to the publication of our 11th Annual School Rankings, we have also helped families all over Texas develop safe, stable, and nurturing parent-child relationship through the launch of our parenting education website, and ongoing parent education trainings.  We continued to improve children's access to nutritious food by partnering with school districts in order to implement breakfast and after-school meal programs, impacting over 50,000 students statewide! Our efforts to reduce the demand for human trafficking have continued this year through business partnerships and collaboration with attorneys across the state.

With 2016 coming to a close, we are eagerly preparing for the 85th Legislative Session beginning in January of 2017. With nearly 20 pieces of proposed legislation relating to all of our core issue areas, CHILDREN AT RISK is poised to make great strides for children all throughout Texas!  In addition to the legislative session, 2017 will continue to provide CHILDREN AT RISK great opportunities to continue our research efforts and identify the needs of children, families, and communities throughout the state.  I would like to take a moment and thank each of you for making children's needs a priority and for believing in CHILDREN AT RISK to drive the change that will continue to impact the lives of children. During this holiday season, we wish you and yours all the best.  We look forward to an exciting and productive 2017.

Happy Holidays!
