Food Policy Council in The Big Give SA May 3
The Food Policy Council of San Antonio (FPCSA)

April, 2016

The Food Policy Council of San Antonio (FPCSA) is participating in The Big Give SA, the 24-hour online giving spree set for May 3 that will raise funds and awareness for local nonprofit organizations.

Donations received by the organization on that day will be used for outreach and to analyze policy barriers and work toward a just, healthy food system for our community. Outreach efforts include presence at community gatherings to receive input on food issues in local neighborhoods. Current workgroups include Farm to School, Policy, Urban Agriculture, Beverage Justice, Data, and Food in Emergency Preparedness Plans. FPCSA has participated in the Big Give all three years since its beginning in San Antonio. “We are excited to be part of this opportunity,” says President Len Trevino. “We urge all San Antonians to support their favorite organizations on May 6, including their Food Policy Council.”

FPCSA, founded in 2012, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing root causes of an unhealthy food system, and helping people work for the food environment they want to have. Its vision is, “Healthy, fresh, affordable food accessible to all, in a vibrant local food economy.” Food Policy Councils have arisen throughout the U.S. and Canada since the 1990s, to allow community stakeholders a voice in reshaping their local food systems to improve human and environmental health, and rebuilding local food economies.
