Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT)

September, 2015

The seventh annual North Texas Giving Day has raised the largest amount in the event’s history, and the largest amount for a single “Giving Day” in the nation. Nonprofit organizations and supporters celebrated the 18-hour day of fundraising with community-wide events held at donation stations in Dallas, Arlington, Denton, Fort Worth and Collin County featuring performances, music, theater, dancing, children’s activities and much more. The staggering number of more than 118,000 donations (nearly 110 gifts per minute) exceeded last year’s total of 98,000. This year, 2,022 nonprofits benefitted versus 1,580 in 2014. Donations again poured in from all 50 states, seven territories and 28 countries.

  • Donations from: All 50 US States, 6 territories Gifts from 28 countries - a worldwide event!
  • 35% of donations were first-time givers to the nonprofit
  • 110 gifts per minute
  • $30,000 donated per minute
  • $15,500 raised, on average, per nonprofit

“Today proves that philanthropy is alive and well in North Texas and around the world. The commitment to supporting area nonprofits has been amazing,” says Brent Christopher, president and CEO of Communities Foundation of Texas, which founded and presents North Texas Giving Day. “We received gifts from near and far, demonstrating the long lasting and tangible differences these nonprofits make in our region and beyond.”

In seven single-day events since 2009, $119 million has been raised for area nonprofits on North Texas Giving Day. From 6 a.m. to midnight, 35 percent of donations were from first-time givers to their chosen charity.

Donors of all varieties participated in today’s festivities with a remarkable outpouring of heartfelt results. A formerly homeless client and his wife from Arlington Life Shelter made a gift to the organization that once helped him. The Road Adventure participated for the first year and will now be able to support veterans on life-changing, interactive weekend sessions. And at My Possibilities, the team reached their goal and will celebrate soon with the Executive Director and other key staff perched in a dunk tank with a chance to be dunked by donors.
