NEWS FROM TEXAS STATE: Texas State sets enrollment record for 18thconsecutive year
Texas State University

September, 2015

Texas State University has announced the most diverse student body in the school's history, part of a record-setting enrollment of 38,006 for the 2014 fall semester.

This is an increase from the enrollment of 36,764 for the 2014 fall semester. It marks the 18th consecutive year Texas State has set a new record for total enrollment.

"These are exciting times at Texas State," said Texas State President Denise M. Trauth. “Not only does the university have more students than ever before, we have more students taking more hours. That reflects strongly on our students’ success, and our students earning their degrees in a timely manner.”

Undergraduate enrollment also reached a new record of 33,504, an increase of 1,289 students. This was driven in large part by a record incoming freshman class of 5,727, a nearly 7 percent increase from 2014.

"This fall's freshman class is the largest in Texas State's history, and included more of the top students in the state," Texas State Provost Eugene Bourgeois said. "Nearly half of the entering freshmen ranked in the top quarter of their high school class. That’s a significant increase over last year."

Texas State’s student body continues to diversify, with minorities making up 49 percent of the student body.Preliminary numbers indicate Hispanic enrollment increased approximately 9 percent to a record 12,629, and now comprises 33 percent of the student body. African-American enrollment increased more than 13 percent to 3,816 and accounts for 10 percent of the university population.

Other highlights include the College of Science and Engineering reporting record-setting enrollment of 5,880 students, a more than 11 percent increase from last fall.

Enrollment at Texas State’s Round Rock campus totaled 1,809.
