July e-Newsletter

During the 84th Legislative Session, CHILDREN AT RISK (C@R) won several important battles to help eradicate human trafficking. Legislative accomplishments include the creation of a Human Trafficking Prevention Taskforce and a voluntary registry of state businesses committed to ending the commoditization of children in the commercial sex industry. Learn more about how these and other decisions made during the 84th Texas Legislative Session will impact our children by joining us for one of our four Legislative Debriefings in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth.

C@R is proud to announce its partnership with Honorary Chair, artist and human trafficking activist Molly Gochman and are thrilled to feature her Red Sands Project at this year’s Accolades Luncheon. To celebrate the incredible work that is being done to end the demand for commercial sex, C@R and the Citizens Committee to End Human Trafficking will honor State Representative Senfronia Thompson and Senator Joan Huffman at this year's Accolade's Luncheon on October 23 at Houston's Hotel ZaZa.Please visit our website for event details and information on sponsorship levels and individual tickets.

The C.E.A.S.E. Network (Cities Empowered Against Sexual Exploitation) is a eleven-city pilot program committed to the eradication of the illegal commercial sex industry in the U.S. The CEASE Network is an initiative of Demand Abolition, a Hunt Alternatives program. Through Demand Abolition, C@R’s offices in Houston and North Texas work closely with an active network of criminal justice professionals, survivors, practitioners, researchers, policymakers, corporate leaders, philanthropists and the media to identify, advocate for and implement demand-reduction strategies. This month, representatives from all 11 cities will convene in Boston for a joint planning session focused on the next phase of the pilot program. This session will result in an implementation plan for the next set of demand-reduction tactics each city will facilitate over the coming months. For more information on the state of human trafficking in Texas and C@R’s efforts to fight this issue, please visit our website.
