St. Pius X High School: Scott Promoted to Head Boys Basketball Coach
St. Pius X High School

April, 2015

St. Pius X High School announced that Brandon Scott has been elevated to the position of head varsity boys basketball coach.

Scott helped propel the Panthers to a district title and back-to-back final four appearances the last two seasons under former head coach Russell Carr. He joined the SPX boys basketball staff five years ago and has served as the top varsity assistant, junior varsity coach and freshman coach.

"Coach Scott is a great fit to lead our program," athletic director Jason Kimball said. "He is an SPX guy who has been part of our program and community. He will continue the winning tradition that Coach Carr has already established for Panther boys basketball."

As the junior varsity coach for the 2014-2015 season, Scott finished with a 24-2 record. Prior to SPX, he spent five years as the head coach of the boys basketball program at St. Mark's Episcopal School. Scott is currently a physical education teacher at St. Mark's.

"I would like to extend my thanks to Coach Kimball and Coach Carr for trusting me to fill the shoes as head boys basketball coach at St. Pius X," Scott said. "I am very ecstatic, humbled and blessed to be given the opportunity to lead this great group of young men with whom I have built a bond over the past few years. A word we speak about often is competing, and that is what we will continue to do with me as head coach.

"My goal is to continue to build the great tradition and school pride that already exists here in the SPX community. I am ready to lead and guide this basketball team with everything that I have to enhance the skills in which we already possess."

Scott graduated from Texas Southern University with a master's and bachelor's degree in child and family development. He spent time in the Navy and has previous athletic experience coaching AAU basketball, middle school volleyball, and as a YMCA Sports Camp Director.

Carr has accepted a head coaching job at his alma mater, Guntersville High School in Alabama.

"With Coach Scott at the helm, St. Pius X is in great hands," Carr said. "He is a great leader and a great coach. I know he will take the program even farther over the next few years.

"I am very saddened to leave St. Pius X. It has been a tremendous run over the last two years. Although I am sad about leaving Houston, I am excited about returning home."

Carr amassed a record of 43-25 in two seasons at the helm of Panther boys basketball.
