The San Antonio Area Foundation in partnership with Accion Texas -San Antonio presents: “Nonprofit vs. For-Profit: Which One Should You Be?”

Individuals see needs within their communities, and then they have a decision to make:  Should they start a tax-exempt organization to deliver programs and services; or should they open a for profit business to meet those needs?  And many people wonder: What’s the difference between these two types of organizations?  This workshop will cover the basics related to starting a business or a nonprofit organization, and the required preparation and organizational documents for both entities.

Community Meetings to Announce Community Grantmaking Process Changes for 2015

The San Antonio Area Foundation invites you to hear about significant changes to our Community Grants process for 2015.  Through the Community Grants process, grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations serving in the areas of Animal Services, Arts & Culture, Children & Youth, Medicine & Healthcare and Seniors & Community-at-Large programs in Bexar and surrounding counties. 

The Area Foundation will hold four information meetings with the community to share changes to the grant periods, the grant application deadlines and funding guidelines for the grantmaking process.  The meetings will be held at the San Antonio Area Foundation offices at 303 Pearl Parkway, Suite 114, San Antonio, TX 78215.  The dates and times are:

  • Thursday, October 30th, 3:00 – 4:30 pm. 
  • Thursday, November 6th, 9:00 – 10:30 am.
  • Thursday, November 13th, 3:00 – 4:30 pm.
  • Friday, November 14th, 9:00 – 10:30 am.

We are making significant changes in this coming year’s process and we hope to have you or a representative of your organization there.

Wills Workshop 

Do you have a Will?  Attend our quarterly wills workshop to learn how to create a plan that reflects your goals and dreams.  In two hours, we will cover the basics of will preparation, estate planning and the importance of planning for the future.   Presented by Martin I. Roos, JD, Board Certified, Estate Planning and Probate Law, Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
