Bidding on a Final Four

The epitome of March Madness was on display when San Antonio hosted the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship 2nd & 3rd rounds. Anyone who was at the AT&T Center or watched the North Carolina vs. Iowa State game will agree. There's nothing like the excitement of a down-to-the-wire, barn-burner! Baylor played an incredible game on both ends of the floor to beat Creighton. From the initial 64-team field down to the last game of the Final Four, the road to an NCAA Championship has many twists and turns!

Now we are turning our attention to win the right to host another Final Four for the Alamo City. Delegates from San Antonio Sports, the City of San Antonio and UTSA will travel to North Texas this weekend for the 2014 NCAA Final Four to observe and meet with NCAA staff regarding the status of our Final Four bid. We are bidding to land the event in the 2018-2020 window.

San Antonio Sports staff is working hard on our bid, which is due May 9. After that, a site visit will be scheduled some time during Aug.-Oct. The last step of the process is the San Antonio bid committee visiting Indianapolis for a final presentation to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee and staff. Selections will be announced in November.

We are convinced that San Antonio is the perfect place to host the Final Four. Our Alamodome can be upgraded to meet all the specifications for the games, and nothing beats our downtown footprint—the close proximity of hotels, the convention center, the River Walk and other amenities that make it a first-rate fan experience.

Stay tuned for more bid information and how you can get involved to help support the effort!
