News and Notes
  February 2014

What does community mean to you? I have been in several conversations and meetings recently and community engagement has been a hot topic. Mayor Castro, in his State of the City address said San Antonio's success is owed to 2 things; hard work and vision. Do you agree? SA2020 actively engages individuals to make an impact in the community. Siclovia is an example of our community coming together play in the street. And The Big Give S.A. is working to gather the power of 200 + nonprofits to engage all of us in the single biggest 24 hours of giving San Antonio has ever seen. These are just a few examples of how San Antonio is indeed a growing and vibrant place #cityontherise.
But what does community mean to you? Your family, neighbors, friends, co-workers? At this micro level is your city on the rise? Everyday, I see clients and caregivers struggling to help their loved ones cope with illness and disability. For some, their city is not on the rise. Yet, because of community engagement Project MEND is here to lend a helping hand. It takes all of us to participate. What will be your contribution?
Thank you for helping Project MEND help others. For me, the generosity, collaboration, teamwork, and spirit shown everyday demonstrates that San Antonio is a city on the rise!
Here's to all of us helping #cityontherise -

Síclovía will turn San Antonio's streets into a safe, fun place for walking, bicycling, and enjoying outdoor activities.

Síclovía will begin at the intersection of South St. Mary's Street and East Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard, and travel south along East Mitchell Street and Mission Road to Mission Concepción, for a total of about 2.5 miles.

By making a stretch of St. Mary's Street and Roosevelt Avenue temporarily car-free, Síclovía opens the road to pedestrians, bicyclists, and recreationalists. This free community event is organized by the YMCA of Greater San Antonio along with key sponsors H-E-B and the City of San Antonio.
We expect over 65,000+ participants. Project MEND will be there, will you?
One City, One Day, One Goal
May 6, 2014
On May 6, 2014, San Antonio will come together for 24 hours of nonprofit giving! The Big Give SA is San Antonio's first ever giving day, and it's YOUR chance to make a real impact in the community.

Project MEND is a proud participant in The Big Give SA. YOU can help! Commit to donating to Project MEND on
May 6 through The Big Give SA website:

Your support will help clients like Jaylynn.
A beautiful 3-year-old young lady who was born with Spina Bifida. Jaylynn was in great need of leg braces to assist her when walking with her walker. Although she uses a wheelchair most of the day, the braces help strengthen her legs and upper body. Because of community support we were able to help her become more independent and able to move around like other 3 year olds.
