Call for Nominations for the 2013 Texas Health Champion Award
Michael & Susan Dell Center for Healthy Living and Live Smart Texas

The Michael & Susan Dell Center for Healthy Living and Live Smart Texas are pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2013 Texas Health Champion Award. As part of Texas Obesity Awareness Week, the Texas Health Champion Award will be presented to an organization or individual who has demonstrated exemplary achievement in reducing the burden and/or raising awareness of the obesity epidemic in Texas. We are currently seeking nominees for the 2013 Award. Past winners have included, elected officials, school district superintendents, local non-profits, obesity researchers, and grassroots activists.

Nominees may be individuals organizations, or project teams from community organizations, educational agencies, non-profit organizations, or government offices. Self-nominations are welcome.

All nominees will be reviewed and scored, and a recipient will be selected based upon the recommendations of a committee composed of academic and professional peers.

More about the Texas Health Champion
The award recipient will be an individual or organization who has mobilized community efforts to prevent and reduce obesity and promote physical activity and nutritional health through research, practice, policy development and evaluation, social marketing, behavioral interventions or innovative partnerships.
Applicants/nominees should demonstrate the following in their work:
    1. Effective inclusion of essential populations
    2. Sustainability of efforts
    3. Positive impact on the burden of obesity

The evidence-based Marathon Kids program is a free six-month endurance building running/walking, nutrition and schoolyard gardening program for K-5th graders and their families. In the eighteen years since the program was created, over 1,500,000 children have taken the 26.2-mile Marathon Kids challenge.
