The Pink Ribbon Cowgirls Support Group & Social Network
The Pink Ribbon Cowgirls is a program of the BCRC managed by Certified Patient Navigator, Runi Limary.  The Pink Ribbon Cowgirls is committed to helping young women diagnosed with breast cancer at ages 45 and younger in Austin and the surrounding area by creating a social support network of survivors. The group was founded in April 2006 because three young clients of the BCRC could not find local breast cancer support for younger women. Dawn Hale
Dawn Hale has many roles - mother, wife, daughter, and professional. She was just 35 years old when she was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in December 2008.She called the BCRC and was assigned to Certified Patient Navigator, Runi Limary. The Linda P. Acosta Foundation
Gil Acosta founded theLinda P. Acosta Foundation as an informal way to bring he and Linda’s close friends and family together to honor the memory of Linda’s bravery during her two and a half year battle with breast cancer. Gil named the foundation using “P” for Linda’s maiden name – Palacios – to honor Linda’s father for the love and pport he gave them both during her battle.... READ MORE
TDM-1 and Breast Cancer by Debra Patt, M.D., M.P.H.
Within the breast cancer community, we are all excited about the approval of TDM-1 (ado-trastuzumab emtansine or Kadcyla, Genentech) in February by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  TDM-1 offers additional promise to patients with Her2/neu amplified metastatic breast cancer.  As this type of cancer is often more aggressive than others, it lends itself to attacking drivers of an important growth pathway, the Her2/neu receptor.  TDM-1 is an antibody-drug conjugate.  It links the monoclonal antibody trastuzumab (herceptin) which will preferentially bind cells that over amplify...
