Helping Hand Home for children joins the Adoption Coalition

We are excited to announce that Helping Hand Home for Children has joined the Adoption Coalition of Texas as one of our partner agencies.  For 120 years, Helping Hand Home for Children has provided a place to heal for abused, neglected and abandoned children.  Helping Hand Home provides residential treatment services, therapeutic foster care, adoption services, and an on-site charter school for emotionally disturbed children.  The Home is the oldest continuously operating residential childcare agency in Travis County, and a priceless resource kept strong and viable through community support.Their mission is to maintain a therapeutic home for children and to restore each child to a healthy family setting with a goal for children to take responsibility for their own actions, leave with a sense of worth, improve their academic skills, and gain an increased sense of trust.

Sixth Annual Skiin’ with the Galilean for Foster Children set for June 26-27 in Marble Falls

We are pleased to announce that again this summer, an amazing group of community volunteers (all background checked) are hosting the Sixth Annual Skiin’ with the Galilean (SWTG) on Wednesday, June 26 and Thursday, June 27 on Lake Marble Falls.Skiin' with the Galilean is a Christian ministry designed to serve youth currently in foster care by providing them with a safe, fun-filled day of water skiing, wakeboarding, boat rides and tubing. There will also be fun and games with a biblical message as well as a wonderful lunch AND dinner. These exciting activities last all day (9 a.m. – 6 p.m.) and are provided at no cost to the foster children or their families! An adult must accompany the foster child(ren) and be on site all day during the event. Reservations are required!  Spaces are limited and always fill up quickly, so RSVP soon! (Reservations will open May 1, 2013 and we will also offer a waiting list). Additional details are available at the SWTG website at or by calling (512) 789-1241.

To sign up, please email Sally Campbell at actevent13@gmail with the following information. (It is very important to include all details requested!):

1.     Name of foster family making request

2.     What day you want to attend? Choose one: Wednesday June 26 OR Thursday June 26

3.     How many foster children are you bringing?

4.     What are the ages of the children attending?

5.     Will they all be participating in the water activities on a boat? (need to know number for making boat assignments.

6.     How many adults will be attending? (for food estimates)

7.     Will any of the adults in your group need to accompany any of the kids on the boat ? (Adults should ride boats ONLY if necessary so that the maximum number of children can participate).

8.     Please provide the name, email and cell phone number of person who will be driving the children to camp. We MUST have day-of-event contact info.

9.     Person making this request: please provide your name, email address, and phone number so that we can confirm your registration.  Do not assume you have a firm place until we send you a confirmation email or call.

You will receive a confirmation email as we get closer to the event with additional details and location directions.  If for any reason you find you can’t make it after you have RSVP’d, please let us know!  We assign the available boat slots to the kids based on RSVPs and keep a Waiting List once the spots are full. We don’t want any boat drivers sitting around with no shows or wait-listed families not having the opportunity to attend! The boat drivers and volunteers come from all over Central Texas, take several days off work, volunteer their time, boat gas, etc, so we need the camp to remain full (plus, we can serve more kids that way).

Again, RSVP to Sally Campbell at  We look forward to seeing you at the lake this summer!

Forever Families – Watch the Latest Segments

Forever Families child profile segments air on Time Warner Cable’s YNN channel every Sunday. We strive to make each filming experience fun and special for every child we highlight. We do an activity in which the child has expressed an interest to give viewers a glimpse of the child’s personality.

We would like to offer a heartfelt “thank you!” to these businesses that have supported YNN’s Forever Families program in 2013. We would not be able to produce the Forever Families segments with YNN without your gracious support and willingness to work with our crazy schedules on behalf of these kids.

Thank you!

Child of the Month – April 2013

Marcus is a smart, funny and passionate young man. He is a thinker and a planner who likes to explore new ideas and gain knowledge. He likes to write and listen to rap music. Marcus craves acceptance and responds well to positive attention from adults. He is determined to have a bright future and works hard to reach his academic potential.

Marcus wants very much to be adopted so that he can have a family to love and support him in the future. His adoptive family needs to be nurturing, firm, patient and willing to provide him with much needed one-on-one attention. Marcus will do best in a family with older children and one with parents that can help build his self-esteem while encouraging him to discover his strengths and find his place in the world.

For more information on Marcus, please contact Stephanie Berka at the Adoption Coalition of Texas by email or by phone: 512-450-8750.
