Regrettably, Michael Bruno is unable to be in Houston on Wednesday, April 24. To speak in his place, 1stdibs sends esteemed designer, historian and writer, Eric Cohler, of Eric Cohler Design, NYC.

Eric Cohler,

A Collector on Collecting

Eric Cohler started collecting art when he was 18. He has since amassed a collection of over 500 pieces ranging from Egyptian tomb figures to seminal contemporary artists including Damien Hirst, Cindy Sherman and David Salle. Cohler will tell you how he began his collection and discuss the interiors of great American art collectors. As Cohler says: "It's all in the mix."

As a collector and interior designer, one of Cohler's primary resources is1stdibs. He describes his experience working with the site a bit like a treasure hunt, "1stdibs is an amazing platform to research and purchase the world's best selection of antiques, art and design at anytime of the day, no matter where they are home, work, or on the go."

Eric Cohler is one of the country's leading interior designers. Recognized for his creative use of art and antiques in his work, as well as unusual bursts of color, Cohler torques the traditional to create interiors that are uniquely his. A frequent speaker and panelist around the US and the UK, Cohler has delivered keynote lectures at Winterthur and New York's Museum of Art and Design. He designs fabric, furniture and rugs for Lee Jofa and lighting for Visual Comfort. President and Mrs. Obama selected one of his fabrics for the White House family dining room. Eric's book--Cohler on Design--was published this January. It is the first in a series. His next book, Cohler on Art will be published in 2015. Cohler was appointed as a UN ambassador of spirituality and creativity to the 2010 G20 conference in Seoul. He spoke on empowering women in third world countries through the arts to improve their quality of life. Cohler holds a BA in art history from Hobart College; a Master of Arts from the Columbia School of Architecture and a certificate in design from Harvard's Graduate School of Design.

This free lecture is sponsored by Saint Cloud. Presented in partnership with The Design Council at the MFAH.
