Public Encouraged to Pledge “I’m In!” to Support San Antonio’s Bid to Host the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Swimming

February, 2013

San Antonio Sports has launched an online campaign to garner public support for its bid to host the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Swimming.  Visitors to the nonprofit organization’s website,, are invited to click “I’m In!” signaling their enthusiastic support to bring the Olympic Trials to the Alamodome.

San Antonio is one of six cities in contention to host the 2016 Olympic Trials for Swimming.  The other five include Greensboro, N.C., Indianapolis, Ind., Jacksonville, Fla., Omaha, Neb. and St. Louis, Mo.  The online campaign’s goal is to have thousands of fans be a part of convincing USA Swimming officials that San Antonio is the right host before their site visit on Feb. 20.

“Imagine being in the Alamodome to witness the best swimmers in the world like Ryan Lochte and Missy Franklin compete for a place on our nation’s Olympic team just weeks before they take the world stage at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro,” said San Antonio Sports board chairman and a former vice president for USA Swimming George Block.  “If that excites you, then join our effort to show the USA Swimming selection committee that you’re in!”

Those who click “I’m In!” are invited to enter an email address.  If San Antonio should win the bid, they’ll have the opportunity to purchase Trials tickets before they are released to the public and to register early as a volunteer.  The webpage also features an artist’s rendition of the proposed pool layout in the Alamodome, which will house both the competition and warm up pools under one roof, and Mayor Julian Castro’s video message to USA Swimming officials.
