Holt Cat and Meals on Wheels

October, 2012

Last week, HOLT CAT began delivering Meals on Wheels to elderly neighbors living in Southeast San Antonio.  Each weekday, a pair of HOLT CAT employees will donate one lunch hour and deliver meals to homebound seniors living in close proximity to their Training and Support Center located on South WW White.  The new partnership will greatly impact an area of San Antonio where more meal delivery partners are needed.

“East and Southeast San Antonio are areas of greater density and often produce a higher demand for our services,” explains Christian Senior Services’ CEO, Sharon Baughman.  “To have HOLT CAT step up for their elderly neighbors not only speaks volumes about their leadership and commitment to San Antonio, but their involvement will have a direct and immediate impact on our program.”

“One of the ways we demonstrate our core value of commitment is by showing a caring attitude, not only to employees and customers, but also to the community around us.  Helping deliver essential meals to those who are homebound is a great way for HOLT volunteers to show that they care,” said Howard Hicks, HOLT’s Vice President of Public Affairs.

With over 890,000 meals delivered in the previous fiscal year, the addition of HOLT CAT as a meal delivery partner will offer relief for Meals on Wheels, as the program continues to grow.   “The fastest growing segments of our population are seniors over 65 and nearly half suffer from at least one disabling condition,” adds Baughman.  “In order to serve more people, we needed a much stronger volunteer presence on the southeast side and thankfully, HOLT CAT answered our prayers.”

HOLT CAT will be the 23rd corporate partner to begin delivering meals on behalf of the program.  This coordinated effort will also provide opportunities for brief wellness checks and help combat loneliness amongst this very vulnerable segment of our community.  To learn more about becoming a meal delivery partner, call Meals on Wheels of San Antonio at (210) 735 – 5115.
