Are Kids on the 2012 Election Agenda?
Texans Care Voice  October 2012
Help Get Children on the 2012 Agenda
Do you wish candidates for office would focus more on the issues that matter to children and families? Most Americans do, according to polls, and so do we.
That's why, in the lead-up to the elections we are partnering with national and state groups to help get kids on the 2012 agenda. Here are three ways you can get involved.
Join DebateWatch 2012:
We are partnering with the First Focus Campaign for Children and for this conversation on Twitter following tonight's presidential debate, as well as debates on Oct. 11th and 16th. You can, too! Simply tune in for the debates from
8:00 - 9:30 p.m., then at 9:30, join us (@putkids1st) and other Americans nationwide in a Twitter discussion about what you heard regarding kids' issues. Search and use the hashtag #Kids2012. Including #Kids2012 in your tweets is a way to make sure everyone gets your message.
Pledge to Make Kids a Priority:
How much are kids on the agenda now? Voices for America's Children found children are the subject less than 2 percent of the time when national candidates for president are talking or when members of the national media are writing about them. We at Texans Care for Children are proud to stand with Voices in taking a pledge to make kids a priority. We hope you will take that pledge, too, and let your elected officials and candidates for elected office know that they should make kids a priority.
Share Why You Care:
These weeks leading up to the election and months leading into a new legislative session are a crucial time to be talking about children's needs and why kids' future should be on everyone's minds. So we are asking Texans who want better for the next generation to speak up right now on social media, on our blog, in candidate forums, and wherever you are to share why you care about Texas kids. Members of our staff and partners in the larger Texans Care community are reflecting on why they as Texans care for childrenand why everyone should. Thanks for being on our email list!
