Winston School San Antonio

June, 2012

On Saturday, June 2, Rotary leaders from a 40-county area convened in San Marcos, Texas for their “Districtfest” conference to celebrate club accomplishments.  Rotary Governor Sherri Muniz included a “New Generations Celebration” for all Rotary youth programs.  WSSA was featured brightly in this conference segment.

Mrs. Rhonda Green, WSSA lower school teacher and EarlyAct advisor, gave a short presentation on activities of our WSSA EarlyAct program and how it works with our WSSA Interact program. She was followed by Lindy C., next year's WSSA Interact Club president.  Lindy gave an excellent talk on the impact of Interact on her life, a task made easy due to the many projects she has participated in this past year.

In the New Generations Celebration award ceremony, Governor Sherri presented Mike Canales, WSSA Spanish teacher, Interact Advisor and Rotary District 5840 Interact Chair, with a Rotary “Paul Harris” award and pin for his hard work.  Mr. Canales volunteers thousands of hours annually and this award is well deserved.

The WSSA Interact Club received the prestigious “Change Maker Award” given by the President of Rotary International.  This is the fifth consecutive year we have received this prestigious award.  In addition, WSSA Interact Club earned the "Best in District" award.

WSSA students who attended Districtfest were Lindy C., Lisa L., T. J. G., Nicole S., Samantha M., and Logan G. and Mason G.  Congratulations to WSSA students, Mrs. Green and Mr. Canales for these high honors and recognition. Special thanks to the North Central Rotary Club and the Boerne Sunrise Club as sponsors of the WSSA Interact Club.
