Choose Your Cause  For many of us who choose to support conservation this is an important time of year - the Holiday Season of Giving. This year we are offering you choices in the hopes of encouraging you to give something back to birds and supporting GCBO's efforts to protect them. Cypress Island Preserve  In November, we inducted a new property into our International Site Partner Network -TNC's Cypress Island Preserve, Louisiana. A beautiful wooded wetland located in our priority zone for Nearctic-Neotropical migrants, this is Site # 70 for the Network. In this photo, Cecilia Riley (GCBO) presents the Site Partner signage to Preserve Manager Kacy King. GCBO's Site Partner Network conserves over 9 million acres of critical stopover habitat for neotropical migrants. Check out our Site Partner Network map and visit one of these great sites along the Gulf Coast. GCBO Wine and Cheese Benefit  Join us for a wine and cheese tasting benefitting Gulf Coast conservation at The Grape Taste Wine Bistro. Deborah Wassberg, owner of the Bistro has selected a very special wine and cheese pairing at an exclusive rate. There will also be many silent auction items and door prizes. $40 per adult. Tickets can be purchased at Gulf Coast Bird Observatory, 103 Hwy 332 West, Lake Jackson, TX 77566. Due to the limited capacity of the restaurant, reservations will be restricted to the first 60 people responding with payment. Please install the toolbar today and pass this along to your friends. Monthly Bird Banding at GCBO  We reached 3000 birds banded at GCBO! Research Associates Robert & Kay Lookingbill are shown above holding lucky number 3000, an adult male Orchard Oriole banded on July 16th. Join us from 8:00 until noon on Saturday, December 17th for our next monthly bird banding session. Winter residents have arrived. Come see who has returned to spend the winter with us! This is a great way to get kids excited about wildlife, but all ages are welcome. See the map on our webpage for directions or find a map by going to Mapquest or GoogleMaps.
