Warrior & Family Support Center Hosts The POSSE

Warrior Family Support Center 020

On Thursday, September 8, members of the volunteer POSSE (People of Spurs Sports & Entertainment) spent their evening at the Warrior Family Support Center at Fort Sam Houston.  The POSSE, with the help of Spurs Coyote and Taco Cabana, served dinner and spent some quality time with over 200 wounded warriors and their family members.

Wounded Warriors and their Family members visit the Warrior & Family Support Center to maintain contact with other military members or extended family members, to receive emotional support and answers to their questions, and to extend their rehabilitation away from the hospital. The rehabilitation involves learning to cope with war related disabilities as individuals, as couples and as families.

We are grateful to have been their guest.  To learn more about the Warrior & Family Support Center click here.  To learn more about volunteering with the POSSE click here.

Silver Stars Fans Support SBGB and Fire Fighters

Last week, Silver Stars Season Ticket Holders attended the Stars end of season event held at Incredible Pizza. Among the many activities taking place at the event, Season Ticket Holders had the opportunity to bid on items in the Silent Auction benefiting Silver & Black Give Back. The auction was successful, raising $3,090 to help further Silver & Black Give Back’s mission of engaging youth to improve San Antonio and South Texas. Stars Season Ticket Holders bid on one of a kind items signed by the entire Silver Stars 2011 team, individual items signed by the players and several items signed by the 2011 WNBA All-Star Team members. This opportunity to bid on unique items was enjoyed by all.

You can bid on unique Silver Stars memorabilia through Monday, September 19 at

Special thanks to the folks in Bastrop County (Barbara Nichols, Chris Pena and Ken Gerhart) who quickly helped us coordinate a donation collection for the courageous fire fighters! They were overwhelmed by the generosity of our wonderful Silver Stars fans - thank you for filling our bins at the San Antonio Silver Stars Military Appreciation Night game!

Hit the Links and Support Three Great Causes

This year Silver & Black Give Back is one of three beneficiaries of the “Rivalry Before the Match”, a charitable golf tournament with Rudy’s I-35 Cup.  The other two charities are The First Tee and Habitat for Humanity.

The Rudy’s I-35 Cup is an annual golf tournament, held in a Ryder Cup format, which promotes competition between teams of amateur golfers representing the cities of San Antonio and Austin. The Rivalry Before the Match, plays off the same concept; matching individuals, businesses, corporations, and entities from the two cities against each other to decide which city will take home the Community Cup Trophy.

This year's event will be hosted by San Antonio at The Club at Sonterra - South Course & Canyon Springs on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 11:30AM – 4:30PM  and promises to be a great time for all participants.

To learn more about the Rudy’s I-35 Cup/Rivalry Before the Match or to register a team to play, contact Janina Schmit at
