It is official - Wags and Waves has been selected as one of the 25 finalists for the National StayClassy Award in the category Most Successful Fundraiser by an Individual or Group.  This comes with a $150,000 prize to the charity, national media exposure and a trip to California for the Red Carpet Awards Ceremony.

This award is decided through fan votes.  Our event had to get Facebook likes to qualify for the top 2000 and we were able to get almost 500 likes in just minutes.  The voting is from July 25th- Aug 26th.  Each person only gets one vote so we need to reach a lot of people.  Please vote , then Forward to a Friend to as many people as you can.

Wags and Waves is comprised of volunteer representatives from 6 local animal rescue groups uniting with the sole purpose of raising money, support and awareness for Metroplex Animal Coalition (MAC), an alliance of more than 50 nonprofit animal rescues in Dallas/FT.Worth working together to save as many dog and cat lives as possible. MAC strives to reduce the killing of dogs and cats in municipal animal shelters and humane societies through a free spay/neuter program.

While floating down the lazy River at Hawaiian Falls Water Park, our founding member thought it would be a blast if she could bring her lab to the park. She asked the park owner, Dave Busch, if he would consider hosting a doggie splash day to benefit MAC, and he told her to pick a day and have fun.

She told a few friends, they told a few friends and attendance has grown from 200 the first year to more than 2,000 in 2010. The goal for 2011 is to break the Guinness Book of World Records for largest Doggie Pool Party. Wags and Waves is a one day, volunteer run event that includes: local bands playing on stage above the wave pool, local celebrities judging doggie contests such as best costume and best pet/human trick, pet psychics, more than 50 vendors, local rescues with dogs available for adoption, pet cpr/first aid, both human and canine massages, microchipping and of course great food for owners and snacks for pets
