Toyota to Donate Vehicle to Nonprofit Organizations Based on Public Votes

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS July 19, 2011 – San Antonio nonprofit organization SAMMinistries will be competing for votes on Facebook tomorrow, July 20, as one of 500 finalists in Toyota’s “100 Cars for Good” program. Toyota is awarding 100 vehicles to 100 nonprofit organizations in 100 days, based on votes from the public.

Five non-profit organizations from around the country will compete each day for one of Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good on Toyota’s Facebook page, Visitors to the page can vote once a day for the organization that they feel is most deserving of a new Toyota vehicle.

SAMMinistries will be one of the five organizations competing Wednesday, July 20, 2011, for votes to win a brand new Toyota Tundra truck.

“This one truck would affect countless lives by giving the homeless a fresh start on the first day of the rest of their lives, said Navarra Williams, president and CEO of SAMMinistries.

Last year, SAMMinistries moved 144 families from the shelter into their own residences. Many of those moving from SAMMinistries’ homeless Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing programs have no family in San Antonio and can't afford movers, so they rely on SAMMinistries to help them get into their new homes, Williams noted. The organization also picks up supplies and donations around the city.

“Another truck would really increase our ability to serve people in need,” Williams added.
