Dirty Dog? Shampooch!
Pet Paradise and Whole Foods Team Up for Dog Wash Benefiting SNAP

Pet Paradise and Whole Foods Market Benefit SNAP at Shampooc

Do you have a dirty dog? Paradise Pet Resort and Whole Foods Market are teaming up to get your furry friend clean at an event they call Shampooch! Hard working Whole Foods employees and volunteers will be washing dogs at five Houston-area Whole Foods Market locations on Saturday, June 4, 2011, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. They will be using animal and environment friendly cleaning products, so you can be sure that your furry four-footed friend is safe! The cost is whatever you care to donate. Every cent raised will help fund SNAP spay-neuter programs, so please be as generous as you can! We could also use some additional volunteers, so if you care to help, please send email to

When your dirty dog gets clean and fresh at Shampooch, you will be helping to prevent the birth of unwanted animals. It’s a win-win for the dirty dogs of Houston!

San Antonio Dachshunds Get Their (Third) Day!
SNAP Clinic to Fix 100 Wiener Dogs to Celebrate Independence Day

It's the Third Annual SNAP Wiener Dog Day in San Antonio!

The dachshunds of San Antonio will get their third annual Wiener Dog Day when SNAP celebrates Independence Day by spaying or neutering 100 of the cute critters for FREE! Many folks will do their best to reduce the number of wieners in the world at Fourth of July picnics, so SNAP has made it a tradition to try to reduce the number of wiener dogs born unwanted. Note that this event is only for San Antonio residents, but is otherwise open to the general public. Call to make your appointment today! Full story.

The Eventful Month of May
SNAP Houston Sees Two Benefits, a Volunteer Event, and a Special Spay-Neuter Event

SNAP thanks Life+Dog, our volunteers, and Audi of West Houst

May was an eventful (and event-filled) month for SNAP Houston with two third-party fundraisers, a multi-part volunteer fundraiser, and a very special spay-neuter event. The excitement kicked off on Thursday, May 12, with the LIFE+DOG May Issue Party in the Monarch Room at Hotel Zaza. This event benefited SNAP and raised $400 for spay-neuter! The month continued with some SNAP volunteer action at the Orange Show Art Car Ball and Parade. Our volunteers served drinks at both events generating tips and sales that will go to support SNAP programs. Things then took a glitzy turn with the Las Vegas Style benefit for SNAP at Audi of West Houston. SNAP ended the month doing what we do best by participating in a special event at the Oak Tree Estates mobile home park on Maxey Rd. in Houston. Full story.

Wonderful WONDERDOG New York!
Retailer Concludes a Month of Bounteously Benefiting SNAP

Click to shop at WONDERDOG NYC! Benefits SNAP in May!

WONDERDOG New York is wonderful, and we’re not just saying that. During the month of May, the retailer made SNAP the beneficiary of a very generous program. Each shopper had the opportunity to enter the coupon code “SNAP” when checking-out. This triggered a $5 donation to SNAP. What is most astounding is that this donation occurred regardless of the price of the item, and it was applied for every single item purchased! If you bought 10 items, the donation repeated 10 times generating a total donation of $50 to help SNAP reduce the number of animals born unwanted. Full story.

Legal Scholars Raise Big Dollars
South Texas College of Law Animal Law Society Gives $12,000 for SNAP Mobile Clinic

South Texas College of Law Animal Law Society logo

SNAP is excited to announce that the Animal Law Society at the South Texas College of Law has donated $12,000 to help fund the SNAP Houston mobile clinic program. The society holds fundraising campaigns for a variety of animal-related causes and last year donated over $7,000 to SNAP. Christina Fojas, president of the group, explained that the majority of this year’s fundraising proceeds were going to SNAP. “We know the amount of good you can do with that money.” The group has also donated funds to other animal welfare and aid programs. A Generous Gesture from AFH
AIDS Foundation Houston Awards SNAP $500 from AIDS Walk Houston Proceeds

AIDS Foundation Houston donated $500 for your participation in AIDS Walk Houston!

SNAP has been awarded $500 from AIDS Foundation Houston (AFH) from the proceeds of the 2011 AIDS Walk Houston event. This was a very nice surprise given that our team did not meet its $5,000 fundraising goal. Not meeting that goal should have meant that SNAP would receive nothing, but in mid-May SNAP received a message from AFH Chief Development Officer Teri Prats inviting us to send a representative to the check distribution event on the evening of May 19. Upon contacting AFH for additional information, we were informed that, despite being short of our fundraising goal, AFH was still issuing SNAP a check for $500. Full story.

Madame AstroCat
