Lawndale Studio Artists Gallery Talk

Join Lawndale Artist Studio Program resident artists Hillerbrand+Magsamen, Daniel McFarlane and Anthony Thompson Shumate for an informal gallery talk on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 1PM.  Their group exhibition, MEASURED, will be on view in the John M. O'Quinn Gallery.

Come and see the metaphoric lion and tiger fight really hard. Prepare yourselves for untold fairytales and mysterious adventures. Daniel and the Thunderheads will give a special one-time performance at Lawndale Art Center, Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 2:30PM. Beverages provided by Saint Arnold Brewing Company.

A Chemical Reaction: The Story of a True Green Revolution

Presented by Hillerbrand+Magsamen

Presented by Hillerbrand+Magsamen in conjunction with the Lawndale Artist-in-Residence program. During their residency Hillerbrand+Magsamen are making an experimental short video Elevated Landscape. This video was shot on Lawndale's lawn and looks at suburban lawns as identity for families as well as the social and environmental impact of maintaining lawns. They will be presenting the documentary, A Chemical Reaction, as a free outdoor screening on Lawndale's lawn. Bring your chairs, blankets and picnics.

Texas Tourism Week Events at Lawndale and Houston Center for Contemporary Craft  
5 PM - Performance by Don Sanders in the HCCC garden 

5-7 PM - Kite making activity on the lawn at Lawndale 

In recognition of the Texas travel industry and its significant contribution to the state economy, May 7-15 has been proclaimed Texas Travel and Tourism Week. The statewide celebration coincides with U.S. Travel Rally Day on May 10, 2011. Texas Travel and Tourism Week features celebratory events across the state on that day as well as related activities throughout the week. Join Lawndale Art Center and Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC) on Tuesday, May 10, from 5-7PM for a performance by Don Sanders in HCCC's garden at 5PM and build and decorate colorful sky-skimming kites to fly on the Lawndale lawn during the evening!

2011-2012 Lawndale Artist Studio Program

Application Deadline: May 16, 2011, 5 PM

Applications for the 2011-2012 Lawndale Artist Studio Program are now available via our website. This program provides three artists with studio space on the third floor of Lawndale Art Center, a monthly stipend, materials budget and exhibition in May 2012. Please visit our website for complete information or download the application form. Applications are due by Monday, May 16, 2011 at 5 PM (Please note, this is NOT a postmark deadline).
