Frisco Family Services

February, 2011

Nicole Bursey has been named executive director of Frisco Family Services, a non-profit social services agency serving individuals and families residing in the City of Frisco and areas within the Frisco Independent School District. She replaces Jill Cumnock, who left after seven years to join the Ronald McDonald House in Dallas as its CEO.

Bursey was promoted to executive director of Frisco Family Services following an extensive search process conducted by members of the personnel and executive committees on the agency's board of directors.

"Our priority was to identify the very best candidates for this important leadership role," said Paul L. Myers, president of Frisco Family Services' board of directors. "Committee members reviewed more than 75 resumes and conducted multiple telephone and face-to-face interviews over a three-month period. Through this process it became clear that the ideal person for the position was already working for the agency. Nicole's strengths and abilities are proven and we are confident she will lead us forward in a positive and effective way."

Nicole Bursey joined Frisco Family Services in 2006 as client services director responsible for managing grants, programs and services; an extensive volunteer program; and community and business partnerships. She served as the liaison to government and community based organizations, designed and directed outreach strategies, handled departmental budget development and implementation, and supervised professional level staff. Before relocating to Texas, Bursey held a series of progressively responsible executive level positions with the Illinois Department of Human Services.

“My time with Frisco Family Services has been extremely rewarding and has given me the opportunity to see firsthand the impact our programs have on those we serve,” said Bursey. “I have seen individuals walk into our agency very discouraged and leave with a sense of optimism and hope about their family's future. It is an honor for me to take on the challenge of serving as the executive director of such a worthwhile organization."

Bursey received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Social Work from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She was named a Fellow of the Mid-America Regional Public Health Leadership Institute, served on the Frisco Housing Trust Fund Board, and is a member of the Children First! Collin County Coalition and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. She lives in Frisco with husband Othel where both actively participate in the Covenant Church.

Frisco Family Services was founded as a non-profit, social services agency in 1995 to provide needed assistance and support to individuals and families residing in the City of Frisco and in areas within the Frisco Independent School District. The organization has grown to offer a wide range of services including emergency financial assistance, education and life skills workshops, and a number of annual giving programs. It operates a model food pantry and outdoor community garden, and a separate resale store and boutique. Construction plans are underway to build a 12,000-square-foot facility that will house a new resale store on a parcel of land in Frisco already owned by the agency.

Generous individuals and businesses support the agency's work through financial contributions, sponsorships, leadership and volunteerism. More than 4,160 people (1,350 families) were served through Frisco Family Services in 2010. For more information, please visit
