Design Fair 2011: Learn. Shop. Connect. will take place March 30 - April 3, 2011, with an expanded Texas Co-Op. Formerly the 20th Century Modern Market, Design Fair 2011 is led by Honorary Chair Lauren Rottet, FAIA, IIDA, the highly-acclaimed architect and furniture designer  and features vintage modern objects of the 20th century as well examples of cutting-edge contemporary design. A wide selection of carefully curated items will be available for purchase as part of the Design Fair, including furniture, glass, ceramics, lighting, books, metalwork and fashion.


New to the Fair in 2011 is an expanded Texas Co-Op, a selected presentation of the state's best object designers curated by UH Art Collection Curator and artist, Michael Guidry. The Co-Op is an excellent opportunity for seasoned collectors and enthusiasts alike to experience and learn about the most current and noteworthy Texas designers. .


The Keynote Speaker for Design Fair 2011 is James Zemaitis, Senior Vice President and Director of 20th Century Design, Sotheby's, who will be giving a free lecture on Wednesday, March 30th at 7PM at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Brown Auditorium presented in partnership with the MFAH Design Council. Attendees should also mark their calendars for the hippest gala of the year, The Design Fair 2011 Preview Party, April 1 from 6 - 9PM; then plan to keep shopping all weekend April 2 and 3 from 10AM- 5PM. Ticket sales for both events will benefit Lawndale Art Center.

Texas Co-Op:          

The expanded Texas Co-Op at Design Fair 2011 is a selected presentation of the state's best object designers. Michael Guidry, artist and Curator of the UH Art Collection, is curator for the Co-Op, bringing his unique perspective to Texas designers.


About Lawndale Art Center:


Lawndale Art Center is a non-profit alternative space for the exhibition of contemporary works in all media, unique in its focus on Houston area artists. Founded in 1979, Lawndale has owned its present location on Main Street in Houston's Museum District since 1993.  With four galleries in its locally significant Art Deco building, Lawndale includes close to 500 artists annually in changing exhibitions.  Over twenty exhibitions, informal talks and special events are offered yearly including annual events such as Día de los Muertos /Day of the Dead, Design Fair and The Big Show. Lawndale Art Center's most recent programming initiative was to launch an Artist Studio Program that provides studio space for three local emerging artists along with a materials budget and a monthly stipend for a nine month period.
