"Present" is such an interesting word.
Not just a tense of speech, it means existing in "the here and now"; it means not
yesterday or tomorrow, but today; it means "to show"; and it means a "gift"...
Last year, we lost our great co-founder, Jack Myers. There was such an outpouring
of support that The Writer's Garret survived a truly tough year in a truly tough
Today, we still need your help...perhaps more. Last year's help has receded, but
our needs remain.
We know that you are being deluged with last-minute requests, so we ask, can you
contribute $1? $5? $10? More? One dollar from each of you would keep our doors
open and fund operations for nearly two months. Five would provide an hour of reading
and writing instruction for 3,000 children and youth. Ten dollars would do all of
the above plus underwrite half of our community programs for over 500 hours of live
events and radio broadcasts for nearly 100,000 adult learners.
Joining at our basic $45 membership level would restore voluntary salary cuts made
last year; expand our children's programs; fulfill our mentoring pilot for "at risk"
high schoolers; teach hundreds of homeless families; publish new on-line works by
emerging writers; produce our radio program; and position ourselves for a capital
campaign to build a "green" literary center open to the public.
I guarantee, you would be hard-pressed to find an organization anywhere that does
so much for so little. We wrote the book on impact.
Just because my late husband, Jack Myers, has left us, is no reason that you need
to. Please support his legacy and make a gift now--small, medium, or large--in his
name. Give as generously as you can, and together, we'll keep the word alive, not
only in the here and now, but for generations to come.
Thea Temple, Executive Director,
The Writer's Garret
