How much would you be willing to donate to help preserve and record the oldest manuscripts in North America: the rock art of the Lower Pecos Canyonlands?

If you have not already done so, there is still time to make an End of the Year Tax-Deductible Donation that will contribute significantly towards preserving Pecos River Rock Art for future generations.  Send your gift check to SHUMLA at the address listed below, or visit SHUMLA's  Web site (, click on "Donate," and follow the instructions to make your gift online.  The site that handles the donations is a secure site.

We hear daily of extraordinary amounts being realized at auction for important manuscripts.  Consider Thomas L.  McKenney and James Hall's folio, History of the Indian Tribes of North America -- published in three volumes between 1838 and 1844 -- that recently sold at auction for $89,625.  At the Annual Skinner Books Auction in Boston a rare, early printing of the Declaration of Independence was sold for $380,000.

The narrative panels of the Lower Pecos Canyonlands are no less important to the history of North America than those manuscripts.  The rock art of the Lower Pecos predates documents such as these by centuries, dating back at least 4,000 years.  SHUMLA is dedicated to preserving and recording these precious resources.

Without your help, SHUMLA's research and education programs, which promote the study and preservation of this rock art, could not survive.  Thank you for your past support.  Please keep SHUMLA in mind in your year-end giving.

Happy Holidays
