SAN ANTONIO – SAMMinistries has named Norma Jean Huerta, MBA, MA, LMHC, as the new vice president of programs, and she will be responsible for the administrative oversight of all programmatic components of the ministry.

According to Navarra Williams, president and CEO of SAMMinistries, “Norma is the perfect candidate for this position since she is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) as well as her extensive background of working with the underserved. She will play a vital role of guiding and supervising our employees who are involved in the day-to-day operations at Haven for Hope and at the Transitional Living and Learning Center. In addition, she will have oversight of our homeless prevention program.”

Her work history includes experience with military families and in community health clinics, with underserved and at-risk populations.

Prior to joining the ministry, she served as the clinical data program manger with First Nations Community Healthsource in Albuquerque, N.M. While with First Nations, Huerta provided management and direction to programs and operations which included budget preparation, staffing, strategic planning, program development and quality assurance. In addition, she served as a behavior health clinician providing mental health and substance abuse counseling.

Huerta earned her Masters Degree in Counseling and a Masters in Business Administration from Webster University. She belongs to both the New Mexico and Texas Counseling Associations.

She has been an active member in a number of community service pursuits and chaired or participated as representative of local districts boards serving the underserved in New Mexico and Texas. In recognition of her contributions, Huerta was awarded the “2001-02 Volunteer of the Year Award”, the “2004 Excellence in Government Exceptional Student Award”, and the “2008 New Mexico Community Health Worker of the Year Award.”
