Greetings from the Southwest Key Familia!

This time of year is very busy for most families, and it is no different for the Southwest Key Familia! There are a lot of changes this fall with a lot of new developments, opportunities, and plenty of stories to share with you!

The Southwest Key Familia

Some of the highlights in the last few months include...

  • The East Austin College Prep Academy opened its doors to a new class of 6th grade students; we now have almost 200 students enrolled! If you are interested in learning more about enrolling your 6th or 7th grader, please contact us at 512-287-5000 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              512-287-5000      end_of_the_skype_highlighting or fill out an application.
  • Construction has started on the Southwest Key Social Enterprise Complex. We expect construction for this project to be completed within the next 8-10 months. The Complex will house our social enterprise businesses as well as the workforce development programs.  Watch our blog for more about this in the coming weeks!
  • Our teachers at the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program (JJAEP) in Hidalgo County work so hard to prepare their students academically for graduation or the transition back to their home schools.  One student recently reached out to program director Joe Izaguirre and his team to share his appreciate for their guidance and support:
“I was a student at the JJAEP and I wanted to let you know that my time there helped me mature into an adult. I am doing good and about to graduate. The staff made it an experience I will not forget! So say hello to all the staff at Southwest Key for me sir, and thank them for me for all their help and support.  You have a good day sir and stay strong in your faith.”
  • In 2008, Southwest Key became one of only three Austin nonprofits to be nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA), one of the world’s leading accrediting entities.  COA accreditation attests that an organization meets the highest national standards of best practice and is delivering the best quality services to the community.  This month, COA recognized Southwest Key for “demonstrating exceptional improvement initiatives in the management of quality and affirming ongoing commitment to enhancing organizational effectiveness and excellence for consumers and other stakeholders”.  Congra ts to our quality assurance team and all the program staff for your commitment to continuous quality improvement.  You can read more about Southwest Key’s national accreditation and other awards and recognitions on our website.
