Interfaith Relations Newsletter November 2010
Multifaith Banner

IM logo

November has arrrived! We are looking forward to another great Amazing Faiths Dinner Dialogue event in just a few days. We also recently had our first Women's Retreat, which was a great success! We had thirty-five women from various walks of life and faith traditions join us for a restful and enjoyable weekend discussing what it means to be "Women of Power." We would like to extend a special thank you to all the speakers, volunteers, and the women's committee who made the weekend possible!

We have had a great fall full of activities, including two great service projects that were supported by our new initiative, Congregation-to-Congregation. We had several members from 10 faith communities work with us to restore senior's homes and also work to plant trees at a local middle school. When people of faith join together to make our community a better place we all have cause to celebrate!

We have many great events and opportunities to explore the diversity of Houston's religious landscape coming in 2011! We hope you will continue to be a part of our interfaith work.

Thank you and have a great day!

Volunteering with IM on Thanksgiving

IM would like to extend an invitation to volunteer by yourself, with your family or as a group for Interfaith Ministries' 22nd Annual Meals on Wheels Thanksgiving Day meal delivery to homebound seniors.

All routes will have 3-5 seniors and include a map. Deliveries are made throughout the Greater Houston area.

Meals will be picked up on Thanksgiving Day at 10am at the First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main Street, Houston, 77004.

If you would like to volunteer, visit our website and fill out the Thanksgiving Volunteer Application.

Make Holiday Wishes Come True!

This holiday season you can truly make a difference in the lives of seniors or refugee families in our community. For many seniors and refugees your gift will be the only one they receive this holiday season.

Questions for Dinner Dialogue Groups

Many of you have let us know that you are continuing to meet with your Amazing Faiths Dinner Dialogue groups and we are thrilled to hear that great news! Each month you will find in this section a few discussion questions that you can use for your follow up meetings!
We would love to hear about how your groups are doing and any activities that you all choose to do together!

November Questions:

1. Have you ever attended a religious service for a faith tradition that is not your own? How did the experience impact you? Did you learn something new or did the experience help you appreciate something about your own faith tradition in a deeper way?

2. If you could travel to any part of the world and be a part of another faith commmunity for a one month, where would you go? Why?

Do you have news to share?
The Interfaith Relations Department asks that all requests to promote upcoming events be received by the 3rd Friday of the month preceeding your event. Click here to fill out our line request form. Thank you!
