July, 2010

Newworldson, a Canadian Christian musical group receiving accolades and reviews around the world, is coming to San Antonio at the end of July to host a benefit concert for SAMMinistries.

SAMMinistries benefit concert is set for Thursday, July 29th at 7:00 pm at New Creation Christian Fellowship, 8700 Fourwinds Drive. Tickets are $20 each and are available at iTickets, GetTix and at Lifeway Christian Stores at The Rim shopping center. Also, music enthusiasts can purchase tickets at the SAMMinistries corporate offices located in the Furniture for a Cause retail store, 5254 Blanco Road. Tickets at the door will be $25.00.

Newworldson released a single, “There Is A Way,” in February and by late April the record had climbed to number one on the Canadian Christian Radio Charts and number two in the U.S. on Contemporary Christian Music.  The group is composed of Joel Parisien (lead vocals, keys), Mark Rogers (drums), Rich Moore (bass) and Josh Toal (vocals, guitar). The band routinely plays before large crowds at festivals in Europe and the U.S.

The groups’ record company, Inpop Records in Nashville, reports that “There Is A Way,” featuring the Toronto Mass Choir, is a song of encouragement to those who are carrying a heavy burden.

Newworldson’s front man, Joel Parisien, explains, “We all have someone in our lives who is trying to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders…the purpose behind this song is to shine a light in the dark, lyrically extending a hand to that someone just waiting to lay their burden down.” He adds, “We’re so encouraged by the support we’ve received on the radio. Not only have they helped to boosts our profile, but they have also partnered with us to get this message of hope out to the world, which was our prayer for this song from the very beginning.”

Opening for Newworldson for the July 29 concert will be Omar Lopez of Austin who is earning a reputation as the Jean-Luc Ponty of this millennium for his explosive style and refined technique on the violin. A true entertainer with a passion for the stage, Lopez combines his classical training with rock, Latin-jazz, dance, electronica and world music to create a unique and inspired sound. He has released two solo albums of original music including “Forever Red” in 2005 and “Experience” in 2007. His third album, “Mirrors and Memories,” will be released this year.

Atlantic Eyes Entertainment brought Newworldson to San Antonio for a concert at the Arneson River Theater in March, and the band decided they wanted to come back. Planning to play for the homeless at Haven for Hope on Wednesday, July 28.

Navarra Williams, president and CEO of SAMMinistries, says, “We are excited to have Newworldson and the Omar Lopez bands host this concert performance on July 29th at New Creation Christian Fellowship Church. Generated proceeds will support SAMMinistries.  The multi-talented display of energy from these performing band members visiting from abroad is guaranteed to inspire you. Their humble hearts fit right in with the spirit of San Antonio and SAMMinistries mission. Join us this night to remember!”
