The Forts Visit the Fort: San Antonio Botanical Gardenís Exhibit comes to the Alamo

What:              Two forts from theSan AntonioBotanical Garden’s upcoming exhibit, Playhouses and Forts, will be showcased on AlamoPlaza for a day. “El Presidio Chrysalis” and “Woven Passage” will be installed on the site. The display is a preview of the new exhibit, debuting at the San Antonio Botanical Garden (SABG) on June 26.


Who:               Xavier Urrutia, Director of Parks and Recreation, Bob Brackman, director of SABG, Virginia Van Cleave, DRT Alamo Committee Chairman, Dr. Richard Bruce Winders, Historian and Curator of the Alamo and Torrey Carleton, executive director of the San Antonio chapter of the AIA will attend the preview. The designers of the featured forts as well as VIPs from the City of San Antonio, UTSA, and theSan AntonioBotanical Garden will also be in attendance. Re-enactors in period dress will welcome the exhibit.


When:             10am – 2pm; short program at 10:30am followed by tour of the forts with the designers

Photo Opps:    El Presidio Chrysalis is a design inspired by a chrysalis, the intriguing form from which a butterfly emerges as part of its life cycle. Keeping a child’s imagination at the heart of this design, the fort structure becomes a child’s chrysalis. The fort will be positioned on the plaza directly in front of theAlamo. Woven Passage, based on the organic woven design of a bird’s nest, creates a sheltered passage for families to use their imagination and explore the world of nature. The fort will be displayed on the grass in the gazebo area in front of theAlamo. Design Team: Cristina Ontiveros, Damian Guerrero, Waqas Bukhari – UTSA student design team.


More Info:      Playhouses and Forts, opening June 26, will showcase eight unique playhouses and forts created by members of the local design community. The exhibit will be on display through October 24.


                        The exhibit is presented by the San Antonio Botanical Society in partnership with the American Institute of Architects San Antonio Chapter and theSan AntonioParks and Recreation Department.
