Harris County Issues Canine Distemper Alert
Raccoons Transmit Disease, County Agency Urges Vaccination

Harris County VPH issues canine distemper alert.

A canine distemper warning alert has been issued to residents of Harris County, Texas, by the Veterinary Public Health (VPH) agency of Harris County Public Health & Environmental Services. The organization urges vaccination of dogs and ferrets against the virus, immediate treatment for animals believed to be infected, and taking measures to prevent the exposure of domestic animals to raccoons. Raccoons may carry the disease. A press release issued by VPH on April 20, 2010, reveals that 20 dogs brought to the county shelter in the preceding two weeks displayed signs of infection. Full story.

Join the fun and help SNAP at Spring Fling on 19th Street!

Four Houston merchants participating in the annual Spring Fling on 19th Street sale and celebration have made SNAP their beneficiary for the event. Doubly exciting is the news that Neil Sackheim, SNAP board member and partner in Carter & Cooley Deli, has announced that he will personally match the funds raised by the four businesses. The businesses supporting SNAP include Carter & Cooley Deli, 18 Hands Gallery, Gen’s Antiques, and Mercader Antiques. Over 30 merchants are participating in the event, and each has chosen a charity to support. Full story.

SNAP Clinic Web Pages Go Bilingual
New Clinic Overview Links to Clinic Pages in English and Spanish

SNAP clinic web pages are now available in English and Spanish

SNAP has recently completed translating each of its clinic web pages into Spanish and creating a new clinic overview page that provides links to the clinic pages in each language. Each clinic page also now provides a link to reach the alternate language version of the page.

SNAP has a large Hispanic clientele, and providing Spanish-language versions of these pages will make it easier for those with limited English-language skills to find the information they need to help the animals in their lives.
