to Young Readers & Writers

is seeking new instructors to work in our North Texas Writers-in-
the-Schools (WITS) or Writers-in-Neighborhoods (WIN) enrichment program for children,
youth, and families.

Writers work directly with educators and school children in the Dallas-Fort Worth
metroplex following a paid apprenticeship. These are very part-time contract positions
ranging from only one 2-hour meeting to twice-weekly for several months. We look
for reliable, practicing writers with a strong understanding of the interplay of
reading and writing and its impact on the educational experience.

Most of these programs are in economically challenged urban environments in desperate
need of assistance. Applicants must have reliable transportation, pass a background
check, be able to keep commitments (including being on time for teaching and filling
out required paperwork), and have a realistic sense of what is needed to help young
people enrolled in today's beleaguered public school system.
We are having two orientations Monday, March 22 and Saturday, March 27th.
Attendance at one is required in order to be considered to teach this or next semester.

We are especially interested in writers with past teaching experience; knowledge
of TEKS / TAKS; appreciation of reading and writing across the curriculum; interdisciplinary
talents in other arts, science, history, geography, and / or math; training in ESL;
fluency in Spanish; and the ability to work well with others.
