North Texas filmmakers mix film and philanthropy

Two North Texas filmmakers are seeking to provide needed help for individuals in addition entertainment with their work. As reported by CBS 11 News, filmmaker Tisha Blood and producer and filmanthropy advocate Melina McKinnon have collaborated on a new documentary that provides a look into the lives of a North Texas child and others who have craniofacial anomaly. The condition reportedly affects one in every 100,000 children, and causes deformity of the face.

Blood is quoted by CBS 11 as stating of using film to help others, “We had this concept of philanthropy through filmmaking and being able to do more with a film than just for entertainment, but we could make the world a better place by raising money for these children.”

As noted in the report, Torey’s Distraction is set to debut on Thursday, February 18th at the Angelika Film Center in Dallas, with proceeds from ticket sales benefiting the Torey’s Foundation.
