During downturn, giving more important than ever
Houston Chronicle

November, 2009

National Philanthropy Day will be celebrated the world over during the month of November with today, November 11, 2009, officially declared National Philanthropy Day in Houston and Harris County. The occasion calls for a reflection of past and present recessions — and why now is the best time for those who can to give what they can.

Why give in a down economy?

Houston has many redeeming qualities that make ours a truly great city. At the top of the list is the can-do spirit of the people who live here. One of the manifestations of that spirit is the giving of Houstonians and the potential of their gifts as investments in our city. Whether with money, time or other resources, Houstonians have historically stepped up to the plate with unique generosity to support a multitude of charitable causes.
