UNIVERSITY PARK – Peruna, SMU's longtime pony mascot, is getting a partner. Madeleine and T. Boone Pickens will present SMU with a trained mustang at SMU's Oct. 17 home game with Navy.
Madeleine Pickens' National Wild Horse Foundation has proposed a sanctuary to protect and care for wild horses presently in captivity. The Foundation established a 25-member advisory committee that includes SMU coach June Jones as chairman and Roger Staubach, the former Cowboys and Navy great who helped announce the campaign at SMU on Wednesday. Mark Cuban, Jerry Jones, Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith are also members.
