Permian Basin Area Foundation announced $317,400 in grant awards to regional nonprofit organizations during a news conference held today at the Girl Scouts of the Permian Basin Service Center in Odessa.

Spring grant awards are:

Communities In School of the Permian Basin
District 6 4-H
Elite Track Club
Gifts of Hope, Inc.
Girl Scouts of the Permian Basin
Greater Ideal Family Life Center
Hillcrest School
Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas
Midland Affordable Housing Alliance
Midland Fair Havens, Inc.
Midland Habitat for Humanity
Midland/Odessa Area AIDS Support, Inc.
Midland Opera Theater
Midland Palette Club
Midland Teen Court
Nonprofit Management Center
Presbyterian Children’s Home & Services
Recording Library for the Blind & Dyslexic
Safe Place of the Permian Basin
The Springboard Center
West Texas Library System

The Foundation’s spring grants also included the first distributions from the Dollie Ruth Neal Education Fund to support education programs of organizations that serve young women managing single-mother households. Nonprofits that received these grants are:

Wake Up and Dream

Sondra Eoff highlighted the importance of area nonprofit organizations. “Nonprofit organizations play a vital role in improving the quality of life for area residents. From assistance to children and parenting classes to housing and facility improvement, the Foundation and its donors are grateful for the commitment of our nonprofits.”

The Foundation awards grants following review of applications submitted in the spring and fall. Fall grant pre-applications are due at the Foundation’s offices on or before October 1, 2009. Additional information about the Foundation’s grant criteria and application procedures is available at
